This week, Nuclear Graduates, a pioneering graduate scheme within the nuclear sector, conducted its inaugural large-scale recruitment event in Manchester, drawing an impressive cohort of over 300 prospective candidates for the Nuclear Graduates. The initiative is set to expand, offering a large range of coveted graduate positions across the scheme’s sponsor organisations including the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Group (NDA), Rolls-Royce, Environment Agency, Costain, AWE, and ONR (Office for Nuclear Regulation).
Graduates at the event engaged in four comprehensive assessments and benefited from interactions with current graduates and experts from a broad spectrum of sponsor organisations, regulatory bodies, support groups and education providers. They also explored exhibitions and interactive content to delve into the diverse opportunities that lie within the sector.
The day welcomed an array of experts and industry leaders, some of which started out as Nuclear Graduates themselves, to give their insight into the fast paced, changing world of the UK’s nuclear sector. The day provided inspiring insights about so many of the opportunities and developments happening, from innovations in robotics and Artificial Intelligence, to the progression of the UK’s Net Zero targets and how nuclear will play a key role in securing and strengthening our energy security over the coming decades.
The Nuclear Graduates programme stands out for its unique offering, allowing graduates the opportunity to embark on multiple secondments outside of their sponsor organisations, providing an unrivalled, broad scope of experiences within the nuclear industry. Graduates benefit from hands-on roles in various professional areas, including engineering, procurement, cyber security, environmental protection, and more across STEM and business disciplines.
The programme, which is open to those who have graduated within the last five years with at least a 2:2, involves three placements over two years, ensuring a comprehensive exposure to the sector. With positions in diverse UK locations, graduates will join a network of highly skilled professionals, and work with sponsors and mentors to help develop their careers within the nuclear industry.
Benefits of joining Nuclear Graduates include a competitive £30,000 per year starting salary, extensive support for travel, relocation, training, and development. Plus, generous annual leave, and an array of benefits encompassing pension contributions, and professional institute membership. Each graduate is also paired with a dedicated mentor to aid their personal and professional growth.
