Plant Chemistry

As a plant chemistry Nuclear Graduate, you will develop and apply an understanding of plant chemistry and corrosion across the full naval reactor life cycle.

You will gain experience in:

• Plant water chemistry
• Plant radiochemistry
• Plant corrosion
• Chemical analysis

Key Accountabilities

These may include:

• Developing an understanding of nuclear plant chemistry specifications and policies.
• Developing the technical skills needed to address plant chemistry issues and solutions
• Understanding and advising on plant corrosion-related issues
• Involvement in the development of new analytical techniques.

Graduates are expected to have a minimum of a 2:2 at Bachelor’s level in one of the following degrees:

• Chemistry
• Materials
• Other degrees with a strong science focus will be considered.

Graduates who would fit well on our programme also have the following attributes:

• Educational experience in chemistry
• A strong interest in nuclear science and technology
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills

Remarkably different to other graduate programmes, Nuclear Graduates offers you a unique opportunity to design your own development programme. A bespoke two-year plan, devised with the help of your own personal, professional mentor will allow you to develop both your technical and behavioural capabilities.

Nuclear Graduates provides a comprehensive training package that blends industry-specific knowledge with personal and professional development.

As part of the induction programme you will be introduced to the nuclear industry and the fuel cycle process. This will enable you to understand the fundamental concepts of atomic and nuclear science.

Each session consists of a themed masterclass and seminar, with facilitated development of knowledge and application. You will also have access to industry experts and learn from their experiences. As part of the Nuclear Graduates programme, you’ll have the opportunity to become a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) ambassador, inspiring and engaging the next generation.

You’ll share your knowledge, enthusiasm and experience with young people through outreach and education, helping to promote careers in STEM and raise awareness of the nuclear sector. This is a valuable chance to develop your communication skills, give back to the community, and play an active role in shaping the future of the industry.
